| Whew, what a ride. :) (Video link at bottom) Here's a link to my first post about this installation: [ http://twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=general&msg_id=1142194 ] "Water Injection: Just add water" - A followup post: [ http://twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=general&msg_id=143809 ] "25psi boost, 22 degrees timing advance, pump gas:" [ http://twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=general&msg_id=1143827 ] So at this point I've gone through about 5 gallons of windshield washer fluid - I'm a boost-a-holic I guess. I've been running 25psi of boost and advanced timing since the install and the car is a rocket. No detonation either. This evening I decided to pull the plugs to have a look at them, run a compression test, and check out the inside of the plenum, throttle bodies, and most importantly the piston crowns. I also swapped out the injector nozzles to the M15 units (was using the M10) which will deliver even more water to the burn. Should increase torque and perhaps allow a little more timing - we'll have to see tonight/tomorrow. Here are some pictures I snapped just a few moments ago: Inside of the plenum is nice and clean - no oily residue buildup to be found..
And once the plugs were out, here's what they look like. You can see that they 'appear' to be running in a lean condition, but I am pulling an 11:1 A/F on my pumpgas program. The reason they aren't coated with carbon is because of the water injection. Mmmmmmm..
Fuzzy picture, but you can see the piston looking back at you. :) My engine has 11,000 miles on it since I put it back together with our current Wiseco piston design and I recall that after the first few hundred miles I could not see the pistons as they were coated with carbon.. The water injection does wonderful things in the combustion chamber.
But this picture shows them much better:
Interesting thing here too: I typically check my compression quite often, around once a month or so.. I beat the piss out of my car and always run it at the ragged edge of its performance and its not uncommon for it to detonate. If I had a penny for everytime my car has detonated, I probably would have enough money already to buy another one of these water injection setups, LOL! When checking them tonight, the car was cold - hadn't run it since I got here this morning. My cold compression numbers actually seem to be about 5psi higher than they have been in the past when I have checked compression and the engine isn't even warmed up! *shrug* I'm not claiming that water injection is the reason for this, but I wonder if all this high HP output is seating the rings a little better. If anything, I would expect the compression to drop slightly because there is no longer deposits in the chamber - deposits will increase the compression slightly. So I also grabbed the video camera and decided to shoot a clip of the nozzles spraying into the hardpipes.. Enjoy! M15 Nozzle Injection
